Hello, everyone! I suppose the best way to get this website started is by giving you an introduction to who I am and where I came from, so here goes. My name is Neal Rozendaal, and you can learn more about me here. I was born in the town of Grinnell in central Iowa, and my dad got me hooked on the Iowa Hawkeyes at a young age. My father was a farmer, and like many Iowans, Dad spent his fall Saturday afternoons working in the fields with Hawkeye football blasting from the radio of his tractor. In the winter, my father, as usual, would work until it was too dark to work any longer. Then he would slide into his big living room chair and watch Iowa basketball on channel 17. I picked up my father’s love of sports and especially Hawkeye sports, and I carry it with me to this day.
I attended Lynnville-Sully High School and graduated in 1998. When it came time to choose a college, it wasn’t a tough choice to make. I spent four and a half years at the University of Iowa and loved every minute of it. I earned degrees in economics, statistics, and political science, which is interesting if only because “English” and “literature” weren’t exactly my strongest subjects in school! After I graduated from Iowa, I knew I wanted to be an economist, so I had to make the difficult decision to leave a state that I truly love. When the Bureau of Labor Statistics in Washington, DC, offered me a job as an economist, I just couldn’t say no.
That was almost a full decade ago. I greatly enjoy living in the nation’s capital and I love my day job as well. I am getting married in July to my fiancee, Ashley, who runs a popular blog called Coffee, Cake, and Cardio. All in all, I live a fairly normal life, and that’s really about all there is to know about me. Except…
A few years ago, I got it into my head that I could/should write a book, and it has been a whirlwind journey since then. I can’t wait to tell you all about it! But until then, take care, and thanks for reading!
