I made my first post on this blog on May 1, 2012.  That means that today we’re going to celebrate six months at NealRozendaal.com!  It’s a great time to look back…and look ahead!

Looking Back

I’m going to be honest…when I first started this site, I had no idea what I was doing.  I still don’t, for the most part, but I have made a lot of progress over the last six months.  I set up the look and design of the website and added several new features to the site, including my archives, my links, and my bibliography.

Probably the most important thing I’ve learned, however, is my niche in Hawkeye blogging.  I love to make posts about the Hawkeyes from a historical perspective, which is something I think is sorely lacking online.  I honestly believe that’s the direction I want to take this thing, and I appreciate you taking that journey with me!

Over the last six months, I have talked about my journey of becoming a Hawkeye author of three books.  I also talked in depth about the subject matter of those books and the reviews they’ve received.  While discussing the reviews, I’ve taken a closer look at the reviewers, who are some of the biggest names in Hawkeye sports media.

Finally, during the 2012 Olympics, I did a fun feature on Hawkeye Olympians.  I really enjoyed talking about some of those great Hawkeye athletes…and that series, I believe, was a sign of things to come.

Looking Ahead

So where do I hope to go moving forward?  First and foremost, I hope to continue making posts putting the accomplishments of the current Hawkeyes in historical context.  Also, this blog has been almost entirely focused on football at this point.  I’m excited, as we enter Iowa’s first basketball and wrestling seasons since the beginning of this site, to talk more about those sports!

But I’m also excited to introduce several new features that will be rolling out on this site over the next few months.  They include:

  • Hawkeyes Revisited, where we catch up with some of the great Hawkeye players of the past
  • Hawkeye Flashback, where we remember some great games in Hawkeye history
  • Hawkeye Personalities, where we take a look at the men behind the scenes outside of the court and playing field
  • Hawkeye Book Reviews, where we tell fans about the great Hawkeye sports books out there

And, as always, I’ll be providing more information about my released and upcoming books!

That’s a quick look at what I feel is an exciting future for this website!  I want to take a moment to sincerely thank all of my readers for taking the time to check out the site.  It has been a work in progress, but I’m going to keep working on my craft to give you the most entertaining and informative Hawkeye news I can.

Thank you all so much for reading!  And I’m pleased to say, more to come!
